Jerryy - a teenage romance

source: reelnepal.com

Movie: Jerryy

Director: Hemraj BC

Starring: Anmol KC, Anna Sharma, Amalia Sharma and others

In My Eyes: ** (out of 5)

Every love story comes with a twist and is compiled of joy and pain in its own way. Jerryy is not an exception. What it offers on a plate is a light hearted love story that showcases a teenage romance with some laughter, some sentiments and true love, they say, garnished with melodious music and beautiful locales of Pokhara and Mustang.

Plot:
Xavier Rana aka Jerryy (Anmol KC) goes on a trip to Pokhara
with his friends, where he meets his childhood friend Foggy (Amalia Sharma), who is on a trip to Mustang with her group of friends. Jerryy alone joins Foggy and her team to Mustang. In the group is Aakansha (Anna Sharma) who doesn’t like Jerryy as she notices his playboy behavior. But as story goes on, Jerryy and Aakansha fall in love while roaming around Mustang. Heartbreak comes soon in between but fades away soon as well. After returning to Kathmandu, story takes a turn. With some dates and parents-meeting, all goes well till Jerryy gets to hospital. What happens to Jerryy and between them afterwards forms the rest story.

What I felt:
Director Hemraj BC (‘Hostel’ fame) presents old story in interesting way and makes Jerryy a pleasant watch. He sure knows to deal with teenage matters in his movies. Story and screenplay are okay. Story goes on a flow. Few plots including drinking blood of a yak, paragliding, bathing in Muktinath are fresh and add charm to a movie.

There are few hiccups though. Scenes between Jerry and his parents (in first half and later when talking about his girlfriend) could have been more convincing as the plot there seems rather unusual. In one scene, Akansha tells Anmol not to mess again with her, and it makes you say – when did he ever mess with her? He was actually messing with Akansha’s foreigner friend! Also, it would have been better if they’d included a scene in Beni or other village since it is shown that they go to Mustang via roadway. Some scenes in the first half seems heavily influenced by a Bollywood blockbuster Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.

Cinematography (Shailendra D Karki) and music (Naren Limbu) are worth applauding. Pokhara and Mustang are captured very beautifully, it’s gonna promote internal tourism for sure. Time lapses look wonderful. Background score is pleasing and connects with the flow of a movie. Songs don’t pop up unwontedly like in other Nepali movies, in fact, they help the story move forward. K yo maya ho and Chahanchhu (both by Hercules Basnet) are melodious.

Coming to performance, Anmol KC has improved from his last outing Hostel. He looks charming with his good looks. Both Anmol and Anna act well. She looks fresh, innocent and pretty. Anmol doesn’t look much convincing in emotional scenes. Amalia Sharma does not have much scope but she does enough for the given role. Other supporting characters are okay. But the actress playing Anmol’s mother looked expressionless all the time!

Final Say:

Jerryy is emotional ride of teenage love with its share of travel, laughter, fun, romance and emotions. It’s sure an entertaining watch. It’s fresh in its presentation.
