In my eyes: 2.5/5

Fanko is an average suspense drama that keeps the audience engaged up to the end. The comical layers in the presentation of a very simple story make a movie an entertaining watch, complimented by Saugat Malla’s performance.

Plot:
Bhakti Thapa (Saugat Malla) is delivering a big sum of cash from Pokhara to Kathmandu on the behalf of his boss Dhamala (Keshav Bhattarai). On knowing this, he is followed by Buddhabir Rai (Dayahang Rai) and Lily (Priyanka Karki). Also involved in the money game is  Pathak (Anup Baral). After Bhakti leaves his wife Mithu (Keki Adhikari) at home on the way towards Kathmandu, the chase begins and the drama gets spiraled.

What I felt:
The story is simple. Everyone has a reason for having a vulture eye on the money and so, they chase for it with their best efforts. After meandering here and there, the money ultimately gets to the right place (morally).

It is upon the plots and the presentation to make the simple story entertaining and gripping. The director and the writer seem average herein. They are good in balancing the pace, suspense, and the entertainment factor but the movie as a whole falls short of being very good.

There is almost no dull moment, the pace is apt and the movie is engaging. The characterization of Bhakti is very refreshing and so is the chemistry between him and his wife Mithu.

The characters of Buddhabir Rai and Lily feel incomplete. There are certain loopholes in the plot such as, how Buddhi and Lily get to know the place that Yogi took Bhakti to, when it is shown that they arrive there much later?

Dialogues are sweet and sound, humorous and proverb-y. They add life to the characterization. Cinematography is good. Background score is okay. The song ‘Local Beauty’ comes out of nowhere when it actually was supposed to be one important point in the plot. Song was not good too. ‘Thungde’ is a fun song that appears at last only.

Saugat Malla shines as Bhakti; this is one of his finest performances – he projects the right amount of innocence, fun and mystery as per the character’s demand. Dayahang Rai and Priyanka Karki reminds of Jholay! The stammering Buddhabir Rai is well-acted by Dayahang Rai, seems cakewalk for him and Miss Karki plays Lily well. Keki Adhikari is sweet as Mithu. Anup Baral is fine. Other supporting actors A Gurung, Prakash Ghimire, Keshav Bhattarai are okay.

Final Say:

An average suspense drama with a comical touch.
