Based on the real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, Everest mainly shows the survival attempts of two expedition groups when they get hit by a disastrous snow storm on their way down from the summit of Mt. Everest. This disaster drama and adventure thriller takes us on a trip to summit and down with several jaw-dropping moments.

The best thing in the Everest is its breathtaking cinematography. The success of this movie reflects in the feeling that we get while watching it on screen – the feel of an adventure! It’s terrific and it’s horrifying. It’s like the battle between the mountain and men. The every scene from the base camp to the summit is marvelous. Although not entirely shot in Nepal as it is difficult to shoot on the real top, it never feels that it was shot in Italy or some studio.  Well, it is thrilling and astonishing, is the fact.

Director Baltasar Kormáku is applaud-worthy for making a movie with this fine execution on such a difficult setting. However, writing department somehow saddens. Despite all those trainings and hurdles during the climbing, sometimes it feels like it is hurried up to the summit. A little more details on supporting characters would have been better. And, what about the Sherpas? It is less convincing not to show the noticeable presence of Sherpas in the region and the climbing.

Good thing, however, is that along with the thrills, it has emotions and sentiments tied from the very beginning. The point where the question “why?” is asked is good. The part between Rob Hall and his wife Jen is beautiful.

As soon as they start towards the summit, the movie takes you with a storm. You can never miss a moment - eyes glued and jaws dropped. Thrills guaranteed. Background music is pleasing.

Sadly, 3D effects didn’t impact much here in Nepal. May be it was the technology of the theater!

Jason Clarke as Rob Hall is very good.  Jake Gyllenhaal has a limited role but does well. Emily Watson as Helen and Josh Brolin as Beck are nice. Keira Knightley (as his wife Jen) in a short role is impressive.

With the winsome cinematography and thrills, Everest is worth watching. It is the experience. The movie does not disappoint.
