Nai Nabhannu La 4: Dying and Crying

PC: reelnepal.com
Movie: Nai Nabhannu La 4

Director: Bikash Acharya

Starring: Priyanka Karki, Anubhav Regmi, Paul Shah, Barsha Raut, Aanchal Sharma, Saroj Khanal, Shishir Bhandari

In My Eyes: 1.5/5

So, dying and crying are the trademarks of Nai Nabhannu La films. Nai Nabhannu La 4 is the repetition of the same. The director somehow balances the twirled-up story and its tissue-thin screenplay with the decent presentation. Music, as in previous installments, plays the vital role.

Paul Shah’s character Neer is the protagonist, but there is confusion in the antagonist. Is Saroj Khanal’s character one or is it the mental state of Neer? Either case, the antagonist factor is not matched up to the desired level in order to create a strong conflict.

Characterization and their development with time look weak. The past relationship of Neer is so dramatic to believe or empathize. What makes Anjana (Barsha Raut) fall so deeply in love with Neer? How convincing of Aani (Priyanka Karki) to offer a home to a complete stranger? How that strong bond between Anubhav Regmi’s character and Neer developed? Why would Saroj Khanal’s character opt for shoot-at-site instead of handling the matter in other ways possible? There comes so many of such questions about little things in the movie.

But, the director has done a fine job in executing a feeble piece of writing. At least, there is a sync between the plots and while watching it all, it does not feel much boring. Nice songs and a little dose of comedy (even though cheesy) help a lot.

The second half is more happening and engaging than the first half, as things seem to fall into a place in this portion. The post-climax scene, the one in which Barsha Raut is hallucinating and mourning is really good.

Music is good, all songs are pretty nice (Chiya Coffee, Maina Raja Maina Rani, Malai Maagne Banayou). Background score is average, though. Cinematography is first-rate. Dialogues are okay, but those ‘a mero hajur’ sound too cheesy and frequent after a while.

Coming to performances, Priyanka Karki and Anubhav Regmi take the supporting roles this time and they are decent in their respective roles. Priyanka Karki could do much better, though. It is Barsha Raut, who actually shines among others. She is good in both casual scenes and emotional ones. Paul Shah is average. Aanchal Sharma is a let-down, especially due to her dialogue delivery. Saroj Khanal is good. It seems as if Shishir Bhandari is there for doing mimicry only, which he is pretty good at. Rests are okay.

Nai Nabhannu La 4 falls short due to the weak screenplay but is watchable enough. It is better than Nai Nabhannu La 3.
