In my eyes: *** (out of 5)
First thing first, it’s all about
entertainment! And this entertainment flick is wonderful, total paisa-wasool.
Resham Filili literally makes the audience filili
and how!
Resham Filili is the story of two
friends, Resham and Hariya, who are common poor men residing in Kathmandu
valley and struggling to achieve their goals. As its genre goes comedy, it has
a grand package of humor and comic elements, stuffed with the appropriate
emotions and sensitivity too. The hype song Jaalma had created for movie is justified,
as the movie does not let you down; instead, it refreshes you, makes you laugh
out loud and put a pleasing smile on your face.
Plot:
Resham (Vinay Shrestha), with his
dreams of getting his sister married and blessings of his mother (Laxmi Giri),
enters Kathmandu to fly to Qatar but is deceived by manpower agency.
Circumstances bring Resham and Hariya together. Hariya (Kameshwor Chaurasiya)
aka Hari Narayan Mandal, who is seeking different ways to earn money and a
chance to become an actor, plans different ideas for income and involves Resham
in them. But they get trapped in the way of Dorje Don (Shisheer Bangdel), a Tire
Don of Kathmandu. Later, they start working in movie sets with the help of
Kharani Dai (Arun Regmi), who wants to direct a film with Bryan as a lead
actor. Bryan (Karma) is a superstar with 20 movies flop out of 21. In midst of
all these, Resham gets attracted to Sunita (Menuka Pradhan), his neighbor and
the cool punk girl riding on bike and supplying tires to Dorje don from her
father’s workshop. For Sunita, Resham happens to be balance halidine dai. Things get twisted after Resham meets an
accident on movie set of Bryan, benefit of which is used by Hariya and Resham
with Kharani dai’s idea. How do they use Bryan in course of their dreams? What
actually happens to them? Can they escape away from Dorje don? What happens
between Resham and Sunita? Do dreams of Resham and Hariya come true? Answers can be known after watching movie.
What I felt:
Applauds to the entire team, every
single one involved in the making.
Pranab Joshi has done quite an
incredible job in executing the movie nicely. Written also by him,
Resham Filili is successful in its goal i.e. to entertain the viewers.
The presentation of movie, based on fake story, is really cool. The
way director has executed the story smoothly and the way humor is injected
throughout the movie is undoubtedly fantastic. The amount of sensitivity
to some issues, in a comedy movie, is feel-able. The local feel of movie is something remarkable
and nice.
Screenplay is good and dialogues
are marvelous. Every character is different, local to the roots and realistic
with their own individual stories. To connect those characters together with
such wonderful plots is challenging and challenge has been successfully
completed. Hariya’s “Don’t touch my milk” is epic, so are
his flashback scenes! Bedroom scene of Sunita and Resham is nice. The entire
climax is equally good. Chemistry between Resham and Sunita looks cute, fun and
interesting; Hariya is even more. The momo magic to Chyarkha, Dorje’s sidekick,
is also too funny. That tribute to technical staffs working in movie behind the
scenes seems well too.
Although story is simple and so are
the plots, it can be felt that screenplay could have been even more tighter and
better. Perhaps, editing has helped in feeling so. Editing (Sushil Neupane and
Pranab Joshi) is not so crisp. Movie seems unnecessarily dragged in few places. The action sequence right before interval is too
lengthy, which could have been cut down to shorter duration. Fight between
Resham and Hariya could also have been a bit shorter. It might be felt that
Sunita’s character could have been a bit more developed. Despite one might feel
boring and stretched in a place or two, movie overall is fun and cannot let
anybody down, as the entertainment factor is damn high.
Cinematography (Babu Shrestha) is
nice. Background score (Almoda Rana Uprety) is near perfect. I wished more
tunes of Jaalma to run on background. About songs? Well, Jaalma is the history
already. The visual of this is not peppy but comic. That signature step of it
is nice. Title track at last is also good. Music (Kali Prasad Baskota) is
awesome. Although only few lines are heard in the movie, Janina Ki and Lets get
Lucky tonight are nice compositions.
Performance is the best thing of
Resham Filili, Kameshwor Chaurasiya as Hariya being the show stealer. Everyone
has given solid performances, but still Hariya rocked! Given the supporting
role, he has shone from the very start to the end. His dialect, his body
language, his expressions, his comic timing, everything has proven his strong talent.
He is great. Vinay Shrestha has transformed himself very well into the character
of Resham. He has carried out his role very naturally; this is his best
performance so far. Karma has given yet another sincere performance; he is good
in portraying flop superstar. Menuka Pradhan, the balance-magne-keti or aakha-laais-ki-laat-khaais girl, is too good; her immense talent is worth
praising for. Shisheer Bangdel as don, Ashutosh Raj Shrestha as Chyarkha,
Kharani Dai, Laxmi Giri as a mother are good and have added weightage to the
movie.
Final Say:
Resham Filili is a wholesome
entertainer - a nice comedy and emotional journey with solid performances and
polished direction. Hariya i.e. Kameshwor Chaurasiya totally rocked! Jaalma is
the big big bumper prize. Do not miss this amazing package of entertainment.
P.S. Do not miss those Jaalma cover video clips during end credits.
And I loved the posters, they’re so much creative and attractive.
Thumbs up, Swapnil Acharya.
And it felt good to hear audience clapping at the end. I’d watched Friday's 8am
show at Civil Mall, it was houseful. Too good. Wishing them super success.

This is an edited article. The devastating earthquake hugely affected this movie as well. I re-watched it after it's second release on August 28, 2015. But the kind of excitement during first watch was not there in second! Nevertheless, Resham Filili is a total entertainment package and it really makes you laugh out loud.
